President Bola Tinubu is poised to introduce a mobile court, integrity brigade, and an e-portal supported by the European Union, dedicated to advancing the cause of women, fostering protection, and ensuring social inclusion in observance of International Women’s Day.
During a pre-International Women’s Day forum, Ms. Fatima Abubakar-Faruk, Special Assistant to the President on Women Affairs, disclosed the commitment of the President to align with Sustainable Development Goals. She emphasized collaboration with national and sub-national authorities to integrate women’s initiatives into the policies and programs of all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
Ms. Abubakar-Faruk highlighted the significance of gender-responsive financing, asserting that it holds the key to unlocking the full potential of women in Nigeria, contributing not only to gender equality but also driving sustainable development and inclusive economic growth.
Echoing these sentiments, Hadiza Bala Usman, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, emphasized that the national policies and programs under the Tinubu administration are conducive to uplifting women in various spheres of society. The commitment extends to fostering gender equality, economic empowerment, and ensuring equitable opportunities for women across the nation’s social, economic, and political landscape.
Dr. Judith-Ann Walker, Executive Director of the Development Research and Projects Centre (DRPC), represented by Ruth Agbo, President of the Association of Women in Agriculture, emphasized the center’s dedication to securing rightful societal recognition for women.
Additionally, President Tinubu pledged to inaugurate the PBAT Care women’s empowerment program, aiming to enhance the productivity of women nationwide in their respective capacities.
In line with Nigeria’s National Gender Policy (NGP), which advocates for a 35% affirmative action, the Tinubu administration seeks more inclusive representation, endorsing a minimum of 35% women in both elective political and appointive public service positions.
