Manchester City’s Rodri, expressing his lack of surprise at not securing a top-three spot in the Ballon d’Or rankings, alleges that the prestigious award leans heavily towards financial considerations and advertising prominence.
Despite his notable contributions, Rodri found himself in fifth place behind teammate Kevin De Bruyne. In an interview with The Mirror, he remarked, “This is normal. I understand very well how things work in these individual awards. They are based on marketing, money, and advertising.”
Notably, Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi clinched the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time in October, surpassing City’s Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe.
Rodri, unfazed by his individual ranking, emphasized his focus on collective achievements in football, highlighting his perspective on the subjective nature of such accolades.
