In a tragic turn of events, Ayuba Abdullahi, the deputy bursar of Kwara State University, Malete, met his demise on Wednesday night while fervently watching the AFCON semi-finals showdown between Nigeria and South Africa.
Sources, preferring anonymity, disclosed to The PUNCH that Abdullahi, engrossed in the match at a Sango sports center, suddenly began feeling unwell.
Witnesses revealed, “The Deputy Bursar followed every moment of the Nigeria/South Africa match, enduring till the conclusion of extra time and the onset of a crucial penalty kick. He expressed dizziness, deciding to head home, unaware that his blood pressure had soared.”
Upon reaching home, Abdullahi collapsed, prompting a swift rush to a private hospital in Sango. However, the severity of the situation necessitated a referral to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where, unfortunately, he succumbed before receiving medical attention.
The university issued a statement, mourning the loss: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Ayuba Olaitan Abdullahi of the Bursary Department. Janazah will take place this morning, and he will be laid to rest at the Hausa Muslim cemetery, Apata Yakuba, Oyun area, Ilorin, at 9 am.”
This untimely demise casts a somber shadow over the academic community as they bid farewell to a dedicated member.
