Scores of women and youth staged a vehement protest on Monday in Minna, the capital city of Niger State, decrying the exorbitant cost of living and the erratic power and water supply issues plaguing the region.
Commencing at approximately 7am, the demonstration caused a significant disruption, as impassioned protesters blockaded the vital Minna Bida Road, impeding the flow of vehicular traffic to and from the capital.
Brandishing placards bearing messages such as ‘No Food,’ ‘We are Dying of Hunger,’ and ‘Save Our Families,’ the protesters conveyed the severity of their grievances.
The repercussions of the protest were felt far and wide, affecting numerous commuters, as well as hindering the access of National Examination Council (NECO) and Federal University of Technology Minna employees attempting to reach their workplaces outside the city center, forcing many to retreat to their homes.
While the specific organizing platform remained unconfirmed, some protesters, carrying fresh leaves, asserted that the soaring cost of living had placed an unbearable strain on their families.
Attempts by the police to disperse the protesters proved futile, as they were rebuffed by the determined crowd.
Stay tuned for further details on this developing situation.
