In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old student at Sheikh Kamaldeen Arabic School in Ilorin, Kwara State, reportedly committed suicide on December 7, 2023.
The student, identified as Alfa Musa, was found hanging in his room at the Dagbenu compound in the Ogidi area of Ilorin. It is unclear what may have driven Musa to take such a drastic and tragic step. His passing is a tragic loss for his family and the community at large.
The state Police Command spokesperson, DSP Ejire Adetoun Adeyemi, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is ongoing.
In a statement, Adeyemi said that the deceased had left a suicide note addressed to his parents.
The note read, “To my mum and dad, I am sorry. I did this because God did not answer my prayers. I would rather die than commit sin. Please forgive me. I love you. Bury me at home.” The police are still trying to determine what led to the tragic death of the young man.
One of the deceased’s friends reportedly visited his residence on the day of the incident but found the door to his room locked.
After trying to get a response from him, the friend forced open the door and found the deceased hanging inside.
An empty paint container, allegedly used by the deceased to hang himself, was also found in the room.
A neighbor described the deceased, who was from Osun State, as a devout Muslim. The investigation into the cause of his death is still ongoing, and no further details have been released.
In the aftermath of the incident, one of the deceased’s colleagues posted a video from the funeral prayers that were held for him.
The video showed the large crowd of mourners who gathered to bid him farewell.
It was clear that the young man was deeply loved and respected by his community. His death has left a deep void in the lives of those who knew him.
