NIGERIAN Rail Corporation sacks staff for ticket racketeering

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Mr. Fidet Okhiria, says staff of the corporation are involved in ticket racketeering.

Mr Okhiria disclosed this when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Finance for the 2024–2026 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) interactive session.

He said those involved have been sacked, while some were demoted depending on the offense they had committed.

The MD gave assurance that the corporation was working with the security agencies to stop the menace, especially through e-ticketing.

The office of the Accountant General for the Federation stated that the NRC had remitted only N345 million in revenue for 2023, adding that the remittances covered January to September.

The Chairman of the committee James Faleke, expressed concern about the revenue generated, adding that the committee would soon take a decision that would make the corporation self-funded.
