Israeli warplanes have killed 33 people and injured many others in the early hours of Sunday, according to Palestine’s health officials.
The attack occurred as Israel said it would continue its bombardment in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, despite US appeals for a “humanitarian pause” to get aid to desperate civilians.
The soaring death toll in Gaza has sparked growing international anger, with thousands demanding an immediate ceasefire and calling for an end to the war that started last month.
Gaza health officials said on Saturday that more than 9,488 Palestinians have been killed in the war, which began when Hamas fighters launched a surprise attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,400 people and taking more than 240 others hostage.
The Israeli military did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the fresh attack. It has however said Israel’s target is Hamas, not civilians, and that the militant group is using residents as human shields.
Foreign ministers from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates met US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken in Amman on Saturday. They appealed to Washington to persuade Israel to agree to a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi on Friday said Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Gaza may “prompt everyone to act”, warning that the “Zionist regime’s crimes have crossed the red line”.
Mr Raisi also criticized Washington’s support for Israel.
The Iranian president’s comments came as the leader of the Tehran-backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, Hassan Nasrallah, praised Hamas’ attacks on Israel.
