FIFA bans Spanish Football Chief for kissing female player

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has banned former Spanish Football Federation president Luis Rubiales for 3 years.

The ban followed Rubiales kissing a player Jenni Hermoso on the lips in the aftermath of Spain’s Women’s World Cup final victory, over England.

The incident sparked an outcry, Hermoso filed a legal complaint against Rubiales saying the kiss was not consensual.

In September Luis Rubiales stepped down from his positions as President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation and as a UEFA Vice-President

FIFA provisionally suspended Rubiales for 90 days following his unsolicited kiss during the medal ceremony after Spain won the Women’s World Cup in Sydney in August.

The Football Governing body said Rubiales would now be banned from all football activity for three years.

“FIFA reiterates its absolute commitment to respecting and protecting the integrity of all people and ensuring that the basic rules of decent conduct are upheld.”
