Kaduna, Nigeria— The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has issued a 21-day ultimatum to the state government over the failure to implement the recently approved minimum wage of ₦72,000.
The announcement was made in a communiqué following an emergency meeting of the union’s State Executive Council in Kaduna. The statement was jointly signed by the State President, Comrade Rayanu Turunku, and the State Secretary, Comrade Sam Kaiwa.
NULGE explained that the ultimatum followed several failed attempts to resolve the issue amicably. The union said the delay has caused severe hardship to its members amid the prevailing economic challenges.
The union warned that if the government does not take action within the 21-day period, it will have no choice but to commence an indefinite strike across all 23 local government areas in Kaduna State.
NULGE appealed to Governor Uba Sani to act swiftly to implement the approved minimum wage to avert an industrial crisis.
The union also urged the state government to maintain the cordial relationship between organized labour and the administration, emphasizing that workers’ welfare must remain a priority.
