Kano Police Arrest Nine After Mob Attack On Station

Kano, NigeriaThe Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of nine suspects following a violent mob attack on the Garko Police Division that left one person dead and three officers injured.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa.

According to Kiyawa, the incident occurred on September 5, 2025, when officers from Wudil Area Command brought in three suspects linked to a culpable homicide case reported in Garko local government area.

He explained that during interrogation, a crowd armed with sticks and stones besieged the station, protesting the victim’s death and attempting to lynch the suspects.

The mob, he noted, violently attacked the facility, destroying property, burning a police patrol vehicle, vandalizing three Hisbah Board vehicles, and shattering the station’s windows. Three officers sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Wudil Hospital.

Kiyawa further revealed that during the chaos, a burning tire exploded and struck one of the attackers, leading to his death, while three others sustained injuries.

He added that Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, swiftly deployed a containment operation and initiated engagements with community stakeholders, which restored calm in the area.

The spokesperson confirmed that nine suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the attack, while investigations are ongoing both into the mob action and the original homicide case.

Kiyawa cautioned residents against resorting to jungle justice, stressing that such actions undermine law enforcement and disrupt public peace. He urged citizens to channel grievances through lawful means rather than violence.
