Uyo, Nigeria— The Super Eagles of Nigeria boosted their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a crucial 1-0 victory over Rwanda on Saturday evening in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The breakthrough came in the 51st minute when substitute Tolu Arokodare scored just five minutes after coming off the bench, ending a tense goalless first half that saw star striker Victor Osimhen substituted due to fitness concerns.
With the win, Nigeria moved to 10 points from seven matches, placing third in Group D. South Africa lead the table with 16 points, while Benin Republic sit second on 11 points.
Looking ahead, the Eagles will fly to South Africa on Sunday for a decisive clash against the Bafana Bafana, a must-win encounter that could define Nigeria’s qualification journey.
The result in Uyo not only lifted the spirits of Nigerian fans but also kept the nation’s dream of returning to football’s biggest stage alive.
