Rumepirikom, Rivers State — Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike said the successful conduct of Rivers State local government elections has paved the way to end emergency rule in the state.
Speaking after casting his vote on Saturday in Obio/Akpo LGA, Wike expressed optimism that the elections mark a new chapter for grassroots democracy.
The elections, held amid heightened security and political tension, cover all 23 LGAs in the state.
Wike’s remarks come as emergency rule, imposed earlier after political crises involving the governor and his deputy, is set to be lifted following the election outcome.
