Nigeria Police Repatriates Wanted Chinese Gang Leader

Abuja, NigeriaThe Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja, has successfully repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, back to Beijing, reaffirming its commitment to global security collaboration.

This was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement released in Abuja. According to him, the operation highlights Nigeria’s determination to combat transnational organised crime in partnership with international security agencies.

Qisheng, described as a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province, China, had been under pursuit after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued an arrest warrant in 2024 for orchestrating and directing violent organised crimes. To evade justice, he fled China and sought refuge in Nigeria.

Following intelligence gathering and surveillance operations, INTERPOL NCB Abuja operatives successfully apprehended Qisheng in Abuja on August 8, 2025. After his arrest, he was repatriated to China on August 15, 2025, under the established framework of police-to-police cooperation. The process was jointly coordinated with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria.

Speaking further, Adejobi stressed that the successful repatriation underscores Nigeria’s resolve that no fugitive will be allowed to exploit the country as a hiding place. He described the operation as proof of the strength of international partnerships in addressing the complex challenges posed by global crime syndicates.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering commitment to strengthening global alliances. He emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to leverage intelligence-sharing and operational collaboration to ensure justice transcends borders.

The IGP added that the arrest and extradition of Qisheng should serve as a clear warning to fugitives worldwide, stressing that Nigeria will not serve as a sanctuary for criminals.

The statement concluded with assurances from the Force that Nigeria remains a strategic partner in international security cooperation, determined to uphold justice and protect global peace.
