Kano, Nigeria — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command has apprehended Umar Adamu Umar, a 27-year-old suspected drug trafficker, with cannabis valued at over ₦10 million.
The arrest was made on August 6, 2025, along the Zaria–Kano Road, according to a statement by the NDLEA Kano Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari.
Umar, from Fagge local government area of Kano State, was caught transporting 9 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa concealed in 19 parcels. Investigations show the cannabis was being moved from Lagos to Kano.
Maigatari explained that the interdiction represents a significant financial loss to traffickers by disrupting their supply chain and funding channels, while also protecting communities from the social and economic harms associated with narcotics trade.
Kano NDLEA Commander, Assistant Commander-General of Narcotics (ACGN) A.I. Ahmad, reaffirmed continued intelligence-led efforts to prevent the inflow of illicit substances into the state and maintain pressure on trafficking networks.
