Oyo State, Nigeria — The nominated 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has announced that his coronation will take place soon, following his return to his ancestral hometown of Ibadan.
Speaking with journalists at his private residence on Ondo Street, Ladoja expressed gratitude to God and the Olubadan-In-Council for nominating and approving him as the next monarch. He noted that his journey to the revered throne began in 1993 and prayed for wisdom, peace, and long life to fulfill the responsibilities ahead.
The former governor of Oyo State made his first public appearance since the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025. Paying tribute to the late monarch, Ladoja said he was saddened by his demise, noting that he had hoped Oba Olakulehin would reign for several more years.
Prayers were offered at his family compound in Isale-Osi, where Ladoja reaffirmed his commitment to peace and development in Ibadanland.
“I thank God for counting me worthy to ascend the throne of Olubadan. By His grace, the government will soon announce the coronation date now that I am back. We will continue to engage all key stakeholders, including Oluwo, Araba, and Governor Seyi Makinde, to ensure peace and progress,” he said.
During his visit to Isale-Osi, Ladoja warned miscreants notorious for causing unrest in communities such as Born-Photo, Asaka, and Foko, to embrace peace or vacate the city. He stressed that Ibadan must remain peaceful to foster growth and development, adding that his reign would not tolerate thuggery or social vices.
Accompanied by his wives, Ladoja rode in a motorcade from Isale-Osi through Oja-Oba, Beere, Oje, and Gate before arriving at his Bodija residence, where a large crowd gathered to welcome him.
