Tokyo, Japan — President Bola Tinubu arrived in Tokyo in the early hours of Monday for a series of high-level engagements ahead of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), scheduled to hold in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.
According to the State House, Tinubu’s aircraft landed at Haneda Airport around 1 a.m., where he was received by Japan’s Ambassador to TICAD, Ambassador Hideo Matsubara.
The President’s visit will feature participation in plenary sessions as well as bilateral meetings with Japanese government officials and private sector leaders. He is also expected to engage with chief executives of Japanese firms investing in Nigeria, reflecting his administration’s push to attract foreign direct investment.
Last week, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that Tinubu’s itinerary includes strategic discussions on strengthening economic partnerships between Nigeria and Japan.
Following his engagements in Japan, Tinubu will travel to Brasília for a two-day state visit from Sunday, August 24, to Monday, August 25, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
