London/Birnin Kebbi — The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, retired Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami, has passed away at the age of 81 in a London hospital.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the sad news in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
Sani Sami, a former military governor of Bauchi State during Muhammadu Buhari’s regime from 1984 to 1985, died on Saturday night after an illness. He is survived by four wives and seven children.
Expressing the state government’s shock, the Press Secretary described the Emir as a respected leader whose contributions to peace and development in Zuru Emirate and Kebbi State will be fondly remembered.
In a condolence message, the Kebbi State Government mourned the loss of the revered traditional ruler and prayed for the forgiveness of his shortcomings and for his soul to be granted Jannatul Firdaus.
Burial arrangements are yet to be communicated.
