Abuja, Nigeria — Former Senate President and current National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take decisive steps in restoring public trust by ensuring transparency and correcting past mistakes as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s by-elections, Mark emphasised that the ADC, which he described as a “child of necessity,” was determined to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative to the dominant parties.
He further appealed to security agencies to uphold neutrality and guarantee a fair environment for all stakeholders in the electoral process.
“All eyes are on the Commission to correct past errors that have tarnished its image. INEC must deliver a credible process that can stand the test of scrutiny,” Mark stated.
The ADC Chairman also advised party supporters and the general public to abide by electoral laws while remaining alert against voter intimidation and electoral malpractice.
Highlighting the weight of public expectations, Mark cautioned that INEC’s credibility hinged not only on announcing results but on conducting elections that would withstand pressure from political parties, civil society organisations, and millions of Nigerian voters.
