Ogun State, Nigeria — The Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) and the wider Nigerian football community were thrown into mourning on Monday following the sudden death of the team’s assistant coach, Akin Olowookere, who collapsed during a morning training session in Ogun State ahead of a scheduled match later in the day.
Confirming the incident, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State described the news as “shocking and devastating,” noting that Olowookere’s passing came at a critical time when his expertise was crucial in restoring the team’s lost glory.
In a condolence statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, the party praised Olowookere’s dedication and passion, highlighting his significant role in the new coaching crew’s mission to overturn 3SC’s poor performance record over the past 26 years.
“This is a great loss not just to his family, but to the Shooting Stars family and the global football community,” Sadare said. “We had high hopes for the turnaround of the team, with Coach Olowookere playing a pivotal role, but fate has taken him in active service.”
The APC extended its sympathies to the bereaved family, 3SC management, players, and supporters worldwide, praying for strength to bear what it called an “irreplaceable loss.”
