Southampton, England— Joe Aribo, the Nigerian international midfielder, is expected to depart Southampton this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
At 29 years old, Aribo is currently assessing his future at St Mary’s Stadium as he was notably absent from the matchday squad in Southampton’s 2-1 win over Wrexham and had limited involvement during pre-season friendlies. Manager Will Still confirmed that Aribo, along with a few other players, are set to leave the club, signaling the former Charlton star’s determination to seek new challenges.
Several European clubs have expressed interest in signing Aribo, including Aston Villa in the English Premier League, Villarreal in La Liga, and Red Bull Salzburg from Austria. RB Leipzig has also reportedly made a concrete offer of €10 million for the midfielder.
Despite these developments, reports suggest Aribo is reluctant to move to Turkey, turning down interest from Besiktas, one of the clubs linked to him earlier. He appears focused on opportunities in other competitive European leagues.
Aribo joined Southampton in July 2022 from Rangers and has been a key player, having made over 100 appearances with the club, scoring nine goals. His versatility as an attacking midfielder continues to attract interest from multiple clubs keen to bolster their squads ahead of the 2025/26 season.
