Pierpaolo Marino Criticizes Ademola Lookman’s Attitude Towards Atalanta Amid Transfer Saga

Bergamo, ItalyFormer Napoli sports director Pierpaolo Marino has publicly criticized Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman, accusing him of showing ingratitude towards Atalanta amid ongoing transfer tensions.

Marino, speaking to RAI 2, highlighted the long-standing trust between the Percassi family—Atalanta’s owners—and their commitment to their word, emphasizing that Atalanta sold Lookman for over €50 million to clubs outside Italy but are reluctant to strengthen a direct Italian rival, namely Inter Milan.

“The situation reflects a common pattern among foreign players coming to Italy: they are valued initially, then show total ingratitude,” Marino said. He contrasted Lookman’s conduct with Moise Kean of Fiorentina, praising Kean for acknowledging the club’s role in his development.

The former sports chief suggested that Napoli could become involved in the transfer situation, creating a potential three-way negotiation that benefits all parties without leaving anyone disadvantaged. However, Marino warned that Lookman’s current behavior is causing significant problems for Atalanta.

He concluded by urging a reassessment of certain contractual terms to better manage such conflicts.

This commentary comes amid reports that Lookman has formally submitted a transfer request, accusing Atalanta of “broken promises” and poor professional treatment. He has also boycotted training sessions and cleared out his locker, signaling a deepening breakdown in relations with the club as he pushes to join Inter Milan this summer.
