Nigerian exceptional song writer and singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems has made the TIMES 100 Next list.
TIMES is a franchise that recognizes 100 young emerging leaders who are making impacts globally in various fields such as business, entertainment, sports, politics, health, science, and activism.
Tems became prominent after being featured in Wizkid’s mega hit single Essence.
In 2023, she won a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance for Future’s ‘Wait For U’, becoming the first Nigerian artist to debut at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
In addition, she has also received an Oscar nomination for her composition on Rihanna’s “Lift Me UP,” and won three BET awards.
Appreciating her raw talent, a Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated singer and songwriter Mary J. Blige described her voice as so unique and original, so much so that it reminds her of the first time she heard Nina Simone.”
On this year’s list, Tems features alongside American music producer Metro Booming, Ice Spice, Kali Uchis, Hailey Bieber, and Peso Pluma amongst others.
