CAF Honors Former Super Eagles Winger Ejike Uzoenyi Among CHAN’s Greatest Players

Abuja, Nigeria— _The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named former Super Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi as one of the greatest players to have graced the African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Uzoenyi was instrumental in Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2014 CHAN tournament held in South Africa. Renowned for his explosive pace and precise crossing from the left wing, he was relentless throughout the competition and deservedly earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

CAF highlighted his remarkable performance by noting that Uzoenyi’s impact at CHAN earned him a rare call-up to Nigeria’s 2014 FIFA World Cup squad, a significant achievement for a CHAN standout.

Uzoenyi, who also won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria, has been celebrated for his contributions not only at CHAN but also on larger stages, marking him as one of Nigeria’s exceptional football talents.

Other notable players who have shone at CHAN include Congo DR’s Tresor Mputu Mabi, Morocco’s Zouheir Dhaouadi, Meschack Elia (2016 edition), Morocco’s Ayoub El Kaabi and Soufiane Rahimi (2018 and 2020 editions respectively), with Algeria’s Houssem Eddine Mrezigue named best player at the most recent tournament.
