NSCDC Orders Halt to Bouncers’ Operation

Ekiti, Nigeria — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Ekiti State Command has ordered the immediate stoppage of the activities and operations of the Bouncers’ Association in the state until they are fully registered with the relevant authorities.

The NSCDC Ekiti State Commandant, Mr. Toma Matthew Enya, disclosed this in his office on Friday while explaining that the association’s activities pose a threat to the state’s security settings.

Mr. Enya alleged that some individuals were operating as private security guards without belonging to any registered private guard companies in the state.

He described the development as a result of the lack of oversight and accountability hampering security planning in the state.

According to the press statement released by the NSCDC PRO, SC Afolabi Tolulope, the Commandant advised the association to register as a Private Guard Company under the NSCDC’s supervision.

Mr. Enya promised that doing so would provide legal backing and ensure that the group operates within the laid-down procedures and guidelines of the private security business in Nigeria.

The Bouncers’ Association, represented by Mr. Stephen Olajide, acknowledged the need for the registration and expressed readiness to comply.

The Bouncers’ Association also appreciated the NSCDC’s support in training and retraining private guards in the state.

The Commandant also warned that the NSCDC would arrest and prosecute anyone found operating unregistered private security companies or using illegal accoutrements similar to those of government security agencies.

He emphasized that unlicensed individuals providing security checks at events undermine national security.

Also, the NSCDC Commandant said the move is aimed at regulating the private security industry in Ekiti State and ensuring that all operators comply with the relevant laws and regulations.

Enya added that, “the decision will enhance security in the state and prevent potential security breaches once the Bouncers’ Association fully complies with the order issued out to them on the need to register.”
