London, England— Arsenal defender William Saliba has cautioned Premier League teams about the difficulty of playing against the club’s new signing, striker Viktor Gyokeres.
The Swedish forward was introduced to fans ahead of Arsenal’s narrow 3-2 victory over Newcastle United during the final match of their preseason tour in Singapore. Gyokeres joined Arsenal in a high-profile transfer from Sporting Lisbon, valued at around £63 million.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Saliba praised Gyokeres’ abilities and said Premier League defenses should be wary.
“We know how good he is—it’s frightening to compete against a striker like him,” Saliba said. “I’m thrilled to have him as a teammate and confident he will contribute to winning matches and trophies.”
He explained why Gyokeres is intimidating to face: “When you come up against a forward who consistently scores, you must stay alert at all times. Now he’s on our side, and that’s a big advantage—we expect him to score goals for us.”
Arsenal is now preparing for their upcoming preseason game against rivals Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong, following wins against AC Milan and Newcastle during this Asian tour.
