Katsina, Nigeria— Governor Malam Dikko Radda of Katsina State and twelve others are receiving medical care following a head-on collision on Katsina-Daura Road involving the governor’s Toyota SUV and a commercial Volkswagen station wagon.
The crash occurred near KTSTA Motor Park in Daura, with eyewitnesses telling Radio Nigeria that the vehicles were not traveling in a convoy and that the accident resulted from a failed overtaking maneuver.
One eyewitness involved in rescuing victims said all nine passengers of the commercial vehicle sustained injuries of varying severity and were promptly taken to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Daura.
Katsina State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Bala Salisu Zango, visited the injured passengers at FMC Daura and announced that the state government will cover all their medical expenses.
“The Deputy Governor tasked me with checking on the injured, and I am pleased they are stable. The government will handle their bills and ensure they receive appropriate care until full recovery,” Zango stated.
He added that Governor Radda had also been admitted to FMC Daura but was discharged after his condition was confirmed stable.
“I spoke to the governor recently by phone; he is doing well. He was hospitalised alongside the others but released once deemed fit,” the commissioner said.
A statement from Governor Radda’s Chief Press Secretary, Malam Kaula Mohammed, reaffirmed the governor’s stable status.
In a social media video, Governor Radda thanked the public for their prayers, confirmed the accident, and said he and others were undergoing further medical checks to ensure full recovery.
“We appreciate your prayers. We are safe and receiving treatment. We continue to undergo medical examinations and ask for your continued support,” he said.
