Obidients Urge Atiku to Support Obi’s 2027 Presidential Bid

Umuahia, Nigeria— Abia State supporters of Peter Obi, known as the ‘Obidients,’ have called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to abandon his speculated 2027 presidential aspirations and back Obi for the presidency, specifically under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

The appeal was made during a series of rallies across Umuahia, Aba, Ohafia, and Uzuakoli on Sunday, held to commemorate Obi’s 64th birthday and branded as a ‘one million man-march for Obi.’

Speaking to journalists at the Umuahia event, Organising Committee Chairman and Obidients Coordinator, Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili, commended Atiku’s long-standing efforts toward national progress but urged him to step aside, insisting Obi offers the swift solutions Nigeria currently needs.

Obiesili acknowledged Atiku’s contribution to the opposition’s coalition against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, but insisted the coalition’s presidential ticket should be zoned to the South, highlighting Obi’s “integrity, track record, and nationwide appeal” as key credentials.

“We appreciate the coalition’s formation but strongly appeal for Obi to be considered as its presidential flagbearer—he has the national appeal and competence to dislodge the ruling APC,” Obiesili said. “Atiku has done much for Nigeria, but his greatest legacy would be to let Obi lead in 2027. Nigeria’s future depends on it.”

Reflecting on the rally, Obiesili described the mass turnout as a testament to Obi’s dedication to the oppressed and underprivileged, lauding his integrity, compassion, and transparent leadership as unmatched among today’s politicians.

“Obi stands out for his conduct and passion for the masses. Until we find another leader of his calibre, he remains worthy of celebration,” Obiesili added.
