Abuja, Nigeria— The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denounced the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for accusing the Bola Tinubu administration of leveraging the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari for partisan advantage.
The rebuke came in a statement by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who characterized the ADC’s remarks as “hypocritical and insensitive.”
Questioning the ADC’s perspective, Morka asked, “What did the ADC expect President Tinubu to do in the face of national bereavement? Refuse the late President Buhari the dignity of a state burial? Withhold empathy and support from his mourning family? An opposition that can begrudge the departed, surely holds no regard for the living,” he stated.
He further criticized the opposition party for lacking both an appreciation of established national traditions and basic compassion, arguing that it was improper for the ADC to inject politics into a period of official mourning.
Morka underscored that President Buhari, a former soldier, military Head of State, and two-term civilian leader, merited a respectful and honorable farewell, while his family deserved the empathy of the nation.
This follows an earlier statement by the ADC, issued on July 18, 2025, in which the party described the state burial for Buhari as a political display.
