Coca-Cola to Replace Corn Syrup with Cane Sugar in US

Washington D.C., USAPresident Donald Trump has revealed that Coca-Cola will transition to using real cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup in its signature U.S. soft drink.

The announcement was made via Trump’s social media handle, although he did not provide further details or timelines regarding the decision. Notably, he also did not address the long-standing use of high-fructose corn syrup in American sodas—a practice dating back to the 1980s.

When contacted, Coca-Cola neither confirmed nor denied the shift. “We appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm for our iconic Coca-Cola brand,” said Michelle Agnew, a company spokesperson.

Agnew noted that the company would soon unveil more information about “new innovative offerings” in its product line, but declined to confirm whether corn syrup would be fully phased out.

Health experts, including U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., have previously criticized high-fructose corn syrup, linking its consumption to the nation’s rising obesity rates.

Currently, Coca-Cola produces several cane sugar-sweetened variants such as “Mexican Coke”, a fan-favorite originally unofficially imported before being formally introduced by the company in 2005. Another variant is the Kosher-for-Passover Coke, which is also sweetened with cane sugar and marked with yellow caps to cater to Jewish dietary laws during Passover.
