Lagos LG Polls: Deployment Delays Frustrate Officials at Ikosi-Isheri LCDA

Lagos, Ikosi-Isheri The ongoing local government elections in Lagos faced early logistical setbacks on Saturday, as electoral officers and security personnel were left stranded at the Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) secretariat.

As of 9:45 a.m., dozens of officials, some of whom reportedly arrived on Friday night, remained idle and visibly distressed due to delays in deployment by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

“I slept out here on Friday night and till now, they are yet to allocate us. It’s frustrating,” one of the officials lamented anonymously.

Our correspondent observed that the mood at the secretariat was tense, with many electoral and security personnel expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of communication, basic provisions, and clarity on their assignments.

The local polls, which are being conducted across 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs, aim to fill key leadership positions at the grassroots level, including chairmen and councillors. However, the delayed deployment at Ikosi-Isheri has raised concerns about LASIEC’s operational readiness and the potential impact on voter turnout and election integrity.

Despite the disruptions, electoral materials were still being sorted inside the secretariat as of press time, with many polling units yet to receive assigned officials.

Early reports also indicated a low voter turnout, attributed to confusion over polling unit locations and the late start of the exercise.

LASIEC is yet to issue an official response regarding the delays observed in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA.
