Governor Aiyedatiwa Backs Federal Agriculture Collaboration

Ondo state,Nigeria:Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has called for stronger collaboration with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) to promote mechanised farming and enhance food security initiatives across the state.

The governor made the appeal on Monday while receiving the Ondo State Coordinator of NALDA, Chief Olusola Ayandokun, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to his office in Akure.

Governor Aiyedatiwa identified land clearing as a major impediment to mechanised agriculture, especially for young farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs. He noted that addressing this challenge would pave the way for increased participation in modern farming and expansion of agribusiness operations.

“One of the biggest constraints discouraging farmers from mechanised agriculture is the high cost of land clearing. I understand that land clearing is one of NALDA’s core functions, and this offers a promising opportunity for partnership,” the governor stated.

He emphasized that the removal of this barrier could encourage more youth to enter the agricultural sector, which is vital for ensuring long-term food sustainability.

Governor Aiyedatiwa also commended NALDA’s integrated farm estate model being implemented in other states, adding that Ondo has existing farm settlements that can be revitalized and upgraded through a strategic partnership with the agency.

In his remarks, Chief Olusola Ayandokun reaffirmed NALDA’s commitment to supporting Ondo State’s agricultural transformation agenda. He explained that the federal agency is focused on land development, youth and women empowerment, and strengthening the agricultural value chain.

“Our mandate includes land clearing, preparation and allocation, setting up integrated farm estates, providing inputs, promoting livestock farming, and offering technical training,” Ayandokun stated.

Both parties expressed optimism about future collaborations aimed at unlocking the state’s agricultural potential and achieving national food security targets.
