Coalition: Presidential Ticket Won’t split ADC — Momodu

Abuja, NigeriaChief Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine, has affirmed that opposition politicians who have taken control of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have reached a consensus that internal power struggles will not fracture the coalition.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Momodu expressed optimism about the coalition’s launch, highlighting the readiness of ADC’s opposition figures to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The coalition, spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, was formally launched in Abuja with attendance from prominent politicians including 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, ex-Senate President David Mark, former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Attorney General Abubakar Malami, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi.

Other notable members joining from various parties such as PDP, APC, and LP include former Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, ex-Cross River Governor Liyel Imoke, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Dino Melaye, and Elisha Abbo.

During the interview, Momodu emphasized that coalition members prioritize Nigeria’s interest above personal ambitions. When asked if key political positions had been allocated among coalition leaders, he responded that while members are aware of possible outcomes, they have pledged not to allow such matters to divide them.

“I believe, in principle, they understand what might happen, and they have promised not to let that divide them. That is very encouraging and exciting for me,” he said.

Momodu further stated that politicians within the ADC are not motivated by personal power grabs but by a shared commitment to national progress.

Meanwhile, Dumebi Kachikwu, the 2023 ADC presidential candidate, has opposed the use of his party as a platform for the coalition, labeling the opposition figures taking over the ADC as “enemies of Nigeria.”
