Castries, Saint Lucia — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Africans and people of African descent worldwide to unite and collaborate in shaping a future rooted in dignity, promise, and progress for the Black race.
Speaking at a dinner hosted in his honour by Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre of Saint Lucia, President Tinubu emphasized the need for Afro-descendants in the Diaspora to leverage innovation and technology for social transformation. The event was attended by members of the Nigerian community, some of whom have lived in Saint Lucia for over 30 years.
“It’s not our ancestors’ fault that we were dispersed. But we can come together and build a future filled with honour,” Tinubu said. “I’m proudly Afrocentric. Black people are among the most industrious and determined in the world. We must now rise to today’s challenges and work together to uplift our people.”
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to advancing Black excellence globally, noting that one in every five Black people is Nigerian. “We will work hard for the pride of our people — now and for generations to come,” he added.
In recognition of his contributions, Prime Minister Pierre conferred on President Tinubu the prestigious Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia (KCOSL), praising him for his outstanding leadership and engagement during the state visit.
“This award is reserved for those who have rendered exceptional service to our nation. Your presence and vision have been inspiring,” Pierre said.
The prime minister also welcomed the Nigerian community in Saint Lucia, commending their peaceful integration and significant contributions to national development. “You have become part of our society, raising families and building communities,” he noted.
Pierre celebrated the historical connection between the two nations, highlighting the legacy of Sir Darnley Alexander, a Saint Lucian who served as Chief Justice of Nigeria from 1975 to 1979. “His journey from Soufriere to the highest judicial office in Nigeria is a story of dedication and excellence,” he said.
President Tinubu concluded the evening with a personal meet-and-greet session, offering handshakes and words of encouragement to members of the Nigerian diaspora.
