Abuja, Nigeria: The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a public alert, warning students, parents, and guardians to beware of a fake online portal falsely claiming the reopening of its student loan application platform.
In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, described the circulating message as both “false and misleading.” He clarified that no directive has been issued by President Bola Tinubu regarding the reopening of the loan portal.
“The attention of NELFUND has been drawn to a fraudulent message currently circulating online, falsely claiming that President Bola Tinubu has directed the reopening of the NELFUND Student Loan portal,” the statement read.
The message in question includes a link to a bogus website—[https://nelfund-student-loan-2025.po-rt-al.com/NELFUND/]—which the Fund has identified as illegitimate.
“We wish to categorically state that this website is FAKE, and the information contained in the message is false and misleading,” Oluwatuyi added.
The agency urged the public to exercise caution online and refrain from clicking on suspicious links or providing personal or financial information on unverified platforms.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and security, NELFUND emphasized that all official announcements will be disseminated solely through its verified communication channels.
