Abuja, Nigeria: Workers under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) staged a peaceful protest on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the FCTA headquarters in Area 11, Abuja, demanding the immediate resolution of longstanding grievances related to salaries and benefits.
Organized under the umbrella of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), the protesters carried placards bearing messages such as “Non-payment of AEPB enforcement squad salaries,” “Inaccessibility of the salary portal to salary desk officers,” and “Withheld salaries and allowances of workers for over six months,” among others.
Addressing journalists during the protest, JUAC President, Rifkatu Iortyer, revealed that multiple letters had been sent to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, since 2023, appealing for intervention—efforts which she said have yielded no response.
The union has issued a three-day ultimatum to the FCTA to address their demands or risk an escalation of industrial action. Their demands include the commencement of staff training, payment of a five-month wage award, settlement of outstanding teachers’ salaries and allowances, an end to National Housing Fund deductions, and the immediate implementation of promotions due in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
Iortyer emphasized that the workers remain committed to peaceful engagement but are prepared to take further steps if the administration fails to act within the stipulated timeframe.
