Osun Declares Public Holiday to Mark Hijrah 1447AH

Osogbo, Nigeria — The Government of Osun State has announced a public holiday for Friday, June 27, 2025, in observance of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447AH.

The declaration was made in a formal statement released by the State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mr. Rasheed Aderibigbe, on behalf of Governor Ademola Adeleke, urging citizens to take the occasion as a moment for solemn reflection and collective supplication for peace, unity, and sustained development in the state and the nation at large.

Governor Adeleke called on the Muslim faithful and the broader Osun community to mark the Islamic New Year with acts that promote harmony, tolerance, and communal cooperation, which he described as cornerstones of enduring progress.

He emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence among diverse religious and ethnic groups, encouraging all residents to use the Hijrah celebration as an opportunity to strengthen bonds of unity and shared purpose.

In a related message, Prince Dotun Babayemi, a notable governorship aspirant under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, extended his felicitations to Muslims across Nigeria and beyond, particularly those within Osun.

In a goodwill message issued by his media team, Babayemi described the new Hijrah year as a renewed opportunity for spiritual rejuvenation, devotion, and deeper alignment with divine values. He commended the Muslim community for their consistent pursuit of peace and called for increased prayers and proactive efforts in advancing national stability and prosperity.

He further urged Islamic adherents to embrace this sacred transition as a time for introspection, unity, and moral responsibility, reinforcing that such values are essential to Nigeria’s transformation.
