Troops, Bandits Killed in Kaduna, Niger Clashes

Niger state, Nigeria: Several Nigerian soldiers and armed bandits were killed on Tuesday during coordinated assaults on military forward operating bases in Kaduna and Niger states, the Nigerian Army has confirmed.

The attacks occurred in the Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka areas of Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. According to the Army, the bandits executed a simultaneous, three-pronged attack on the targeted bases.

In response, troops from both ground and air components engaged the assailants in a series of counter-offensives, which led to the neutralisation of several bandits. However, the Army also confirmed that some of its personnel lost their lives in the line of duty.

A statement issued via the Army’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday detailed the encounter:

“On June 24, 2025, forward operating bases in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka (Niger State), and Aungwan Turai, Chikun LGA (Kaduna State), came under coordinated attack by bandits. Troops from land and air components swiftly responded with multiple counterattacks, resulting in the elimination of numerous bandits.”

The Army further noted that four soldiers sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. “Sadly, some gallant warriors paid the supreme price in the day-long battles,” the statement added.

The military promised to provide further updates as the situation develops, while reaffirming its commitment to combating insecurity across the region.
