Enugu, Nigeria — Governor Peter Mbah has reiterated that Enugu State remains one of the safest states in Nigeria, despite attempts by misinformation agents to distort public perception.
The governor made the statement on Wednesday while receiving AIG Abayomi Oladipo, the Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13, at the Lion Building, Enugu. He said that his administration had invested in robust security infrastructure, including a Command and Control Centre, AI-enabled surveillance cameras, and a specialized police unit with over 150 vehicles.
“To achieve our vision of growing Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion and becoming a prime hub for investment and tourism, security must be guaranteed,” Mbah said. “We’ve put systems in place not only to prevent crime but to detect and solve it swiftly.”
He dismissed recent online posts linking Enugu to violent incidents, noting that many of the circulated images and videos either occurred years ago or in other locations. “Once we remove false social media narratives, Enugu stands out as arguably the safest city in Nigeria,” he emphasized.
Mbah also assured continued collaboration with security agencies and affirmed zero tolerance for crime and insecurity in the state.
AIG Oladipo commended the governor’s security strides, noting improvements in safety across the state. He disclosed that the police commands in Enugu and Anambra are synergizing efforts to maintain peace and order.
Meanwhile, the Police in Isi-Uzo LGA arrested two alleged informants, Matthew Ebeh and an unnamed woman, believed to have aided a deadly attack on Eha-Amufu farm settlements. Ebeh was reportedly apprehended after a local escaped the attack and identified him.
Enugu State’s enhanced safety was also validated by the UK’s recent travel advisory, which excluded the state from its list of high-risk zones, reinforcing its reputation as a secure destination.
