Ruby Gyang Shares Why She Took a Break From Her Music Career

Lagos, NigeriaSoulful Nigerian R&B singer Ruby Gyang has opened up about her time away from the music scene, citing personal growth, motherhood, and emotional healing as major reasons for her break.

Ruby—known for her hits Kale Ni, and her latest singles Free and So Much More—shared that stepping back from music was a conscious decision to focus on raising her daughter.

“I stepped away from music to focus on my daughter,” she said. “Being an artist had me constantly on the move. I wanted to be present for her, not just in moments but in her growth.”

According to Ruby, the choice, though difficult, proved invaluable. “That break strengthened our bond. Music will always be there, but family comes first,” she affirmed.

Now reemerging with fresh music, Ruby revealed that her latest songs are deeply personal, drawn from struggles with betrayal, emotional pain, and body image challenges.

“My new songs were brewed from the hurt I faced and how God helped me through it,” she shared. “Forgiving those who hurt me was necessary for my peace, even if it didn’t mean reconciliation. Free is about that journey.”

On her single So Much More, she reflected on criticism about her body that once shook her confidence. “My struggles with body image influenced that song. People’s opinions affected me, but I’ve grown past that,” she said.

Back with renewed purpose, Ruby Gyang is not only singing but also empowering others through her art. Her message is clear: pain can birth strength, and music can be a source of healing.
