London — Premier League giants Chelsea have secured the services of highly-rated French defender Mamadou Sarr from RC Strasbourg, marking a significant addition to their defensive ranks.
The teenage centre-back, who is just 19 years old, has signed a long-term deal with the Blues, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
Sarr enjoyed a breakout season with Strasbourg in the 2024/25 campaign, where he emerged as a key figure in the squad. His performances were instrumental in helping the club secure a spot in the UEFA Conference League play-offs.
The young defender featured in 28 matches across all competitions, including 27 Ligue 1 starts, as Strasbourg finished seventh in the French top flight.
Before arriving at Strasbourg, Sarr developed through the youth setups at RC Lens and later Olympique Lyonnais, where he made his first-team debut in the final weeks of the 2022/23 season. He followed that with a brief loan spell at RWD Molenbeek in Belgium.
A France U-20 international, Sarr joined Strasbourg in August 2024 and quickly earned a starting berth in central defence. His maturity, composure, and versatility caught the eye of Chelsea scouts throughout the season.
Notably, Sarr is the son of Pape Sarr, a former Senegal international who represented his country at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and starred for RC Lens during his club career.
