Bauchi, Nigeria —The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a 24-year-old armed robbery suspect, Abdu Shagari, following a gun duel with law enforcement officers along the Toro/Jos federal highway.
In a statement issued Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the incident occurred on June 4, 2025, after police received a distress call about armed men blocking the highway and robbing commuters.
Responding swiftly, a tactical team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Toro Division and supported by local security personnel confronted the suspects. According to Wakil, the robbers engaged the officers in a fierce exchange of gunfire but were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the security team.
“The suspects fled in disarray, many sustaining gunshot injuries. One of the attackers, identified as Abdu Shagari, 24, was fatally wounded and later confirmed dead at Toro General Hospital,” Wakil said.
Recovered items at the scene included a knife, a stick, two sachets of rubber solution, two cigarette stubs, and a flashlight. The body of the deceased has been handed over to the Social Welfare Department for burial arrangements.
Wakil added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
