Asaba, Nigeria — The absence of the prosecution team has once again disrupted proceedings in the high-profile terrorism and attempted murder case involving the Iyase of Ogwashi-Uku, Chief Michael Nwaukoni, and four others.
The case, marked FHC/Asb/18C/24, was scheduled for hearing at the Federal High Court in Asaba but was adjourned by Justice Olufumilola Agbaje to July 23, 2025, following the prosecution’s failure to appear in court.
Before the adjournment, Chief Efe Akpofure, SAN, counsel to the fifth defendant, made an oral application for bail. In response, Justice Agbaje extended the administrative bail earlier granted to Chief Michael Nwaukoni, the fifth defendant in the case.
Justice Agbaje further directed the prosecution to serve all relevant court processes to the defence counsel ahead of the next hearing.
The defence team, which had declared its readiness to proceed with the trial, included prominent lawyers such as Chief Efe Akpofure, SAN, Albert Akpomudje, SAN, Prof. Oludayo Amokaye, SAN, and Chioma Ukwuanyi.
Present in court were the accused persons: Francis Okolie, Esq., National Legal Advisor of the Ogwashi-Uku Development Association; Prince Eugene Ojo Izediunor; Agidiase youth president, John Nwona; Secretary General of the Ogwashi-Uku Development Association, Mazi Adigwe Eleumunor; and Chief Michael Nwaukoni.
The case, involving allegations of terrorism, attempted murder, and malicious damage, continues to draw attention due to its serious charges and the high-profile nature of the defendants.
