Abuja, Nigeria — Concerned over growing security threats and deteriorating infrastructure, residents of EFAB City Estate, Lokogoma, have called on Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to urgently intervene in resolving critical challenges affecting communities across the capital.
The appeal came during a local election held by the estate’s residents to appoint new leadership tasked with coordinating community development and addressing shared concerns.
Victor Friday, the Acting Chairman of the estate, revealed that the community had proactively launched a security collaboration with surrounding estates following warnings of potential attacks in the area.
“We’ve begun working with neighbouring estates in Lokogoma to strengthen our collective security response,” he said.
Ada Bassey, Chairperson of the Electoral Committee, noted that the elections were necessitated by persistent issues, including poor road access and flood risks. She urged the minister to prioritise rehabilitation of roads, drainage systems, and bridges to improve living conditions in the estate and surrounding areas.
Also speaking, Mrs. Bimbo Okpere, a resident, highlighted the importance of community-driven solutions to challenges like sanitation and environmental upkeep, stressing that government alone cannot resolve every social problem.
“We all must play our part. Collective action is key,” she remarked.
Meanwhile, Andrew Eche, legal adviser to the estate’s Residents and Landlords Association, expressed confidence in the electoral process and its potential to bring about better governance within the community.
“The emergence of dedicated leaders gives us hope for a more structured and responsive estate management,” he stated.
As security and infrastructure remain top concerns, residents continue to advocate for government support while strengthening internal efforts to build a safer and more liveable environment.
