Abeokuta, Nigeria — Team Delta has risen to the top spot on the medals table at the ongoing 2024 National Sports Festival (NSF), showcasing a dominant performance across multiple sporting arenas.
The surge was confirmed following Friday’s events, as reported by the Festival’s monitoring team, with the defending champions overtaking Team Bayelsa after a remarkable medal haul.
Delta State currently leads the tally with 35 gold, 12 silver, and 29 bronze medals, reclaiming their reputation as NSF frontrunners.
Team Bayelsa, which previously held the top position, now trails closely behind in second place, having secured 33 gold, 16 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Meanwhile, Team Rivers continues to hold steady at third position, following consistent results that earned them 17 gold, 13 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
In a notable shift, hosts Ogun State climbed to fourth place, accumulating 12 gold, 14 silver, and 18 bronze medals, while Team Oyo now occupies fifth, recording 12 gold, 12 silver, and 18 bronze medals.
So far, 27 states have clinched medals at the Gateway Games 2024, collectively winning a total of 516 medals.
The Festival continues today (Saturday), with competitions resuming across all designated venues.
