Europeanleaders arrive inUkraine to push for 30-dayceasefire

Ukraine,Nigeria:The leaders of France, Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom arrived in Kyiv on Saturday in a coordinated diplomatic effort to press for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine, aimed at paving the way for renewed peace negotiations with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the delegation at Kyiv’s central train station. The visit coincided with a commemorative ceremony at Independence Square, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The European leaders joined President Zelenskyy in laying flowers at a temporary memorial honoring Ukrainian soldiers killed in the ongoing conflict.

In a joint statement, the European leaders, in alignment with U.S. President Donald Trump, called on Moscow to implement a full and unconditional ceasefire to allow diplomatic talks to advance. The United States had initially proposed the temporary truce in March, a move endorsed by Kyiv but not yet accepted by the Kremlin, which is reportedly seeking more advantageous terms.

“We, together with the United States, urge Russia to agree to a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire to open the path toward a just and lasting peace,” the leaders said.

Presidential adviser Andriy Yermak stressed the urgency of diplomatic engagement, writing on Telegram, “There is a great deal of work and many issues to address. A just peace must end this war. Russia must be compelled to agree to a ceasefire.”

The visiting officials are also expected to take part in a virtual conference with additional international stakeholders. Key items on the agenda include discussions around forming a “coalition of the willing” to support Ukraine in a post-conflict environment, potentially including troop contributions to monitor the implementation of any future peace agreement.
