Benin City, Nigeria— The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, on Tuesday led a mass defection of 17 local government chairmen and several influential members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Agbebaku described the move as a deliberate effort to align with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision and speed up development projects across Edo State.
Speaking on behalf of the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, welcomed the defectors, describing their entry as a significant gain for the APC in the state. He assured them of fairness and inclusion within the party’s structure.
Among the defectors were notable figures such as Hon. Sunny Ifada, former Deputy Speaker Hon. Yekini Idiaye, former House Majority Leader Hon. Roland Asoro, Hon. Nosa Nosayaba, and ex-PDP State Secretary Gabriel Oloruntoba, among others.
Governor Okpebholo applauded the development, noting that with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Edo State is now positioned for rapid transformation and progress.
