The Federal Government of Nigeria has criticized Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki for his remarks criticizing the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu. Obaseki had commented that the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms of Tinubu’s administration led to increased hardship for Nigerians.
In response, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that Obaseki’s comments overlooked the broader economic picture.
The government pointed out that many leaders, including global institutions like the World Bank and IMF, have advocated for the removal of fuel subsidy due to its fiscal distortions on the economy. The government advised focusing on impactful projects to uplift the people of Edo State rather than making false accusations against the Federal Government.
