Katy Perry to join all-woman Blue Origin spaceflight

Nigeria: Singer Katy Perry is set to join an all-woman crew on a Blue Origin spaceflight, scheduled to launch from West Texas on Monday

The mission, aboard the New Shepard rocket, will take Perry and five other women to the edge of space, exceeding 100 kilometers above Earth’s surface.

The crew includes Lauren Sanchez, Jeff Bezos’s fiancée, along with notable women in their respective fields: Amanda Nguyen, a former NASA scientist; Gayle King, a TV host; Aisha Bowe, an aerospace engineer; and Kerianne Flynn, a film producer. The 10-minute sub-orbital flight will feature a brief period of microgravity, allowing the passengers to float inside the capsule.

This mission marks a significant milestone as the first all-woman spaceflight crew since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963. The fully automated journey will culminate in a soft landing, slowed by parachutes and a retro-thrust system.
