Artisanal miners seek Tinubu’s backing for members’ welfare

Abdullahi Dantasidi, the National President of the National Artisanal and Small Scale Mining Cooperative Society, has appealed for the support of President Bola Tinubu to alleviate the challenges faced by artisanal miners across Nigeria. In a statement, Dantasidi highlighted the hazards that artisanal miners encounter, including health, security, and environmental risks, despite being the first explorers of mineral resources.

He urged President Tinubu to take proactive measures to ensure the health, safety, and security of artisanal miners, emphasizing the need for safety kits and adequate security measures. Dantasidi also called for fair marketplace parameters to be established for artisanal miners to sell their products at appropriate prices without being exploited by potential buyers, some of whom may be foreigners.

He congratulated the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Dele Alake, on his appointment and expressed the intention to collaborate closely with him to achieve the goals set by President Tinubu’s administration in the mining sector. Dantasidi also encouraged the creation of platforms for government officials and critical stakeholders to engage with artisanal miners, fostering improved synergy and boosting the sector’s productivity. He believed that this collaboration would benefit all stakeholders and create opportunities for the younger generation interested in the mining sector.
