House of Rep Pushes Transition to Renewable Energy

Abuja,Nigeria— In a decisive move to promote sustainability, the Nigerian House of Representatives has mandated all government institutions to transition to renewable energy sources.

This resolution, aimed at boosting national energy security and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, was championed by Chief Afam Ogene, Chairman of the House Committee on Renewable Energy. The directive underscores the government’s commitment to tackling electricity supply challenges while fostering a cleaner energy landscape.

Chief Ogene praised Governor Alex Otti of Abia State for pioneering energy reforms, notably signing the Abia State Electricity Bill into law and establishing a regulatory framework for electricity generation and distribution. His administration’s proactive approach has drawn national attention, positioning Abia State as a model for renewable energy adoption.

As part of this initiative, the House has extended an invitation to Governor Otti to speak at the upcoming National Legislative Summit in May. The summit aims to address policy gaps and drive legislative action for sustainable energy solutions.

Governor Otti, in response, expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed the crucial role of electricity in economic growth. He emphasized that a well-structured renewable energy sector would not only stabilize power supply but also catalyze industrial development across the country.

This transition aligns with global sustainability efforts to mitigate climate change and lower carbon emissions. As the world embraces clean energy solutions, Nigeria is taking bold steps to secure a more environmentally friendly and economically viable future.

The House of Representatives reaffirmed its commitment to driving policies that will ensure Nigeria remains at the forefront of Africa’s renewable energy revolution.
